Max and the Christmas Owl

I let Max, our chocolate lab, out Christmas morning and this is what he brought back. Not sure what kind of owl it is. I thought it was a Barr Owl. I saw one in the woods last fall. In this picture it looks like maybe a Horned Owl. Those are the two varieties that are most common here. We think maybe someone shot it. I can't believe that the bird would just die. The carcass was in pretty good shape before Max "adopted" him.

Wow, those are some pictures! Is it possible the owl just was old and died and then froze?

Once in our courtyard there was a dead bird lying on its back. I remember thinking that it was just flying and then suddenly, dead?

Wow, that is an amazing retrieval! One of our cats brought a rabbit into the house and proceeded to kill it under the dining room table, but that is one impressive find.

I'd be wanting to paint it.

Happy New Year!

How did you ever get it out of his mouth?
We took Brutus (miniature daschaund) fishing on the beach. He jumped up and took a bite of a catfish we had caught, still hanging from the line. I guess he liked it because soon after we caught him eating the bait fish. Yuck!
